These homes were among the many structures in New These homes were among the many structures in New Town that formed the foundation of the community. For generations, many Black residents of Blacksburg lived in these houses, building their lives and families while enduring the challenges of systemic racism and enforced segregation. Within these walls, these influential Black community members cultivated strength and support laying the groundwork for an enduring community despite hardship.

Thanks again to our friends at @twisted.liquid.blacksburg for crafting our special cocktail, Night at the Museum! What a fantastic evening in downtown Blacksburg!

Black history is an integral part of Blacksburg’s Black history is an integral part of Blacksburg’s history. As stewards of two significant town buildings, it is both our responsibility and part of our mission to uplift and center the Black stories that helped shape our town. In recognition of Black History Month, we will highlight influential Black figures from Blacksburg while honoring the Black communities across the region whose labor and leadership were and continue to be foundational to the town’s development.
