Founded in July 2013, the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation is a private 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve, interpret, and promote Blacksburg’s art, history, and cultural heritage. The Foundation has its roots in a committee started by a group of concerned citizens within the town. This committee, focused on the importance of preserving and interpreting Blacksburg’s history, worked diligently to raise funds to create a central location to fulfill this mission.
A Board of Directors was appointed to the Foundation in 2010 and in July of 2013 the Foundation became an independent non-profit organization. The Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Foundation fulfills its mission to preserve, promote and interpret the arts, history and cultural heritage of Blacksburg through the operation, preservation, and programming of the Alexander Black House & Cultural Center and St. Luke and Odd Fellows Hall.
