HOURS: 10 AM - 4 PM, Tues - Sat. PHONE: 540-558-0746
Beginning on Friday, August 18, the Alexander Black House and Cultural Center will be temporarily closed to the public while we perform routine maintenance on the front, side, and rear porches. The work is necessary in order to preserve the restored home and to allow for handicap accessibility. While we are closed to the public, our offices will still be staffed, so feel free to contact us at (540)558-0746.
The work on the Alexander Black House will be completed by Saturday, August 26, just in time for the 5th Annual Alexander Black Tie Masquerade Gala, which runs from 6:30 – 11:00 PM. Proceeds from the Gala – which has quickly become one of downtown Blacksburg’s premier events – will go towards the restoration of the second floor of the home. The event includes a champagne reception, silent auction, an elegant catered dinner, live music, dancing, and more. Tickets can be purchased online here.
The home will re-open to the public when we return to our regular hours on Tuesday, August 29 (Open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM).
During this temporary closure, visitors may still drop by the Alexander Black House and enjoy our outdoor art exhibition “The Windows of Blacksburg,” which will be on display through September 2. In addition, the St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall will be open to the public for extended hours (9:30 AM to 3:30 PM) on three occasions: Friday, August 18, Thursday, August 24, and again on Friday, August 25.
Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain and preserve one of Blacksburg’s most important treasures. We hope to see you at the Alexander Black Tie Gala on August 26!
